The weather in Rome this fall has been perfect. Aside from last weekend, when it was briefly chilly, it’s been in the 70’s or 80’s every day. It’s perfect temperature for exploring the city on foot, which, not coincidentally, is what I do all day every day. As I type this, I’m wearing shorts and flip flops (a huge fashion don’t here, by the way; each time I wear flip flops or shorts, you can be sure that at least one Roman will stare down at them with a look of utter disgust).
But, I’m about to leave for a week long trip to Vienna and Prague tomorrow morning. I bought a winter coat to wear on it this afternoon, even though I felt so silly carrying it home in sunny, 80 degree weather. I stopped for gelato on the way, and walked home with gelato in one hand, winter coat in the other, thinking about how I really hope gelato season isn’t over when I return.
Now, I know there’s no real end to gelato season, especially in Rome, but indulging in gelato after dinner sure is more enjoyable when your hands aren’t freezing holding the cup. Here’s to hoping the Indian summer continues for another week!
PS – I’m not always so boring with my flavor selection. Today was a vanilla/stracciatella kinda day though.
PPS – speaking of walking around Rome, below are some photos I took yesterday afternoon on a walk up the Gianicolo Hill, if you’re interested.
